Mandatory Shipping Documents
Before You Start Shipping
Here’s a checklist of all the mandatory documents you will be needing, wherever you ship to and/or from.
01.
Commercial Invoice
A key ocean freight document. The seller (exporter) sends this invoice to the buyer (importer). You need it during the customs clearance process.
02.
Packing List
An important ocean freight document. Like it name says, it’s a detailed list of what’s in each container, how much you’re shipping, and your cargo’s destination.
03.
Bill of Lading
The bill of lading is the transportation contract which you’ll get from us. It includes all important shipment documents. The bill of lading is also proof the carrier received the goods in good condition from the shipper..
04.
Airway Bill
An airway bill is a written contract between a shipper and a carrier. Amongst other things, it provides detailed information about the nature of the goods being shipped and a means by which the shipment can be tracked.
05.
Certificate of Origin
A certificate of origin is an important document that shows in which country the items listed for export on the certificate are manufactured or obtained.
06.
One Window Contact - Full Team Back up
A shipper’s letter of instruction (often abbreviated to SLI) gives an exporting shipper the chance to convey vital, specific information about a freight consignment to agencies involved in shipment execution.
Important Factors
Also Keep In Mind
Tax and Duties
Each country has its own ways of calculating duty and VAT, which is added to the goods you import. How much you pay depends on the type of goods and its commercial value. We recommend you calculate the total duty and VAT cost before you import.
Your HS Code
Harmonized System, or HS for short, is an international standardized system of names and numbers. It’s used to classify different freights.
You need the HS code for each individual product in your shipment for customs clearance. In every country, customs use HS codes to calculate the import duties and charges. Each HS code comes with its own import duties. HS codes usually have 8 characters and include letters and numbers. Some countries add an additional 2 to 4 characters to the HS code.
Important Information: 6 - Digit Harmonized commodity code is mandatory
Effective from November 1st, 2022, the 6-digit HS code is mandatory for all shipments & if not received, shipping instructions will be rejected. See image example.
